Kevin Schnall Finally Speaks on South Carolina Head Coach Vacancy — What He Said Has Fans Talking

While the college baseball season has just passed its halfway point, an important offseason looms for South Carolina, which will be in the market for a new head coach.

The Gamecocks parted ways with former head coach Paul Mainieri on March 21 after 80 games on the job. Even in the midst of another disappointing season, the position has a chance to be one of the more attractive openings when the season ends.

With that said, South Carolina will have options as it determines the program’s next leader. One of the more popular — and perhaps most intriguing — names is Kevin Schnall from Coastal Carolina.

Ahead of the Chanticleers’ road trip to Arkansas State, the second-year head coach was asked on Wednesday about his name being linked to the South Carolina job opening.

“Yeah, I mean, it’s amazing. We’re in week 11, and we’re already talking about jobs. What a world we’re in,” Schnall said. “The only thing I can speak on with certainty is that our focus right now is extremely microscopic, and there are only two things that matter. Number one, what can we do to make this team better? Number two, what can we do to make this program better?

“I can assure you that there’s going to be nothing that’s going to distract us from our standards. There’s going to be nothing that’s going to distract us from our responsibility to lead these players and this team.”
