Suspension:Reese Burkhardt has been suspended from Texas tech due to…
Head coach Joey McGuire said Monday the Texas Tech football team has addressed the situation surrounding kicker Reese Burkhardt.
During Saturday’s game against TCU, Burkhardt ran for a touchdown on a fake field goal. In celebration of his score, Burkhardt lifted his jersey and pulled down his undershirt, which featured a handwritten message of “Trump 24! MAGA.”
The shirt quickly picked up traction on social media with reactions coming from both sides of the situation. Burkhardt, a fifth-year senior out of Andalusia, Alabama, later missed a 50-yard field goal, Tech’s first missed kick of the season. Texas Tech lost 35-34.
McGuire said he wasn’t aware of what Burkhardt’s shirt said until after the game. Here’s McGuire’s full comment after a question was posed to him in the press conference.

“We have addressed it. We will continue to address it. We’re addressing internally. You know, it’s always one of things as far as whenever you’re dealing with young adults, the really young adults, I guess, the choices that we make and when we make them and when you share it.
“I always think the greatest thing about football, basketball, sports like that, it’s a team sport. You always want to make sure that you’re putting your team in the best situation. And there’s places that you express your opinion and, you know, I don’t think necessarily that’s a time or the place.
“As far as with him, we’re going to deal with it. Dealt with it on Saturday and continue to talk through stuff and find the best solution and keep it in house.”
McGuire added that he plans on voting in the upcoming election, but won’t reveal who he’s voting for.
“I do encourage everybody to vote,” McGuire said.
