Unbelievable:.Xavier Guillory announced his departure and decommit from  Sun Devils due to…

 

When sophomore receiving standout Jordyn Tyson went down with a season-ending injury in the regular-season finale against rival Arizona, the Arizona State Sun Devils were looking for another athlete to step up.

 

Xavier Guillory, a 6-foot-3, 205-pound senior, answered the call. He caught two touchdown passes to help boost ASU (11-2) past Iowa State 45-19 in the Big 12 championship game at AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas.

 

That win propelled the Sun Devils into the College Football Playoff.

 

Here is a closer look at Guillory:

 

Guillory’s numbers at ASU

This season Guillory has started 10 games. He has 19 catches for 320 yards and five touchdowns. The two scores against Iowa State marked the first time he recorded two touchdown receptions in a game in his two years in Tempe.

 

The longest-scoring play he had this season came in the 28-23 win over Brigham Young in which he was on the receiving end of a 61-yard scoring bomb from freshman quarterback Sam Leavitt that gave the Sun Devils a 28-9 lead in the closing minute of the third quarter.

 

In 2023 he registered 21 catches for 226 yards and one touchdown. He missed the last three games of the season with a foot injury that required surgery. His best game of the season came in the first against Southern Utah in which he had five catches for 73 yards highlighted by a 47-yard touchdown reception from since-departed quarterback Jaden Rashada.

Career before ASU

Guillory, who hails from Spokane, Washington, spent three at Idaho State. His best season at his previous school was the 2022 campaign in which he had a team-high 52 catches for 785 yards with four touchdown receptions, earning Big Sky All-Conference recognition. His season high of 120 yards receiving yards came twice, once against Cal Poly and the other against Northern Colorado.

 

In three years at Idaho State, Guillory tallied 91 catches for 1,373 yards and nine touchdowns.

 

In 2022, Guillory’s last year at Idaho State, current ASU special teams coordinator Charlie Ragle was there as head coach.

 

Other personal details

Guillory’s degree from ASU is in liberal studies . . . He is of Native American descent and aims to be a role model for youth in his tribe. . . His middle name is Raphael in honor of his father, a former psychology professor at Eastern Washington who passed away in late 2020 at the age of 49 from colon cancer . . . Xavier was a three-star prospect out of Lewis and Clark HS in Spokane.
