Henrik Pedersen has spoken following Sheffield Wednesday’s win over Leyton Orient

Sheffield Wednesday marked their return to League One with a 2-1 win over Leyton Orient – but Owls boss Henrik PEdersen wants his side to develop more of an identity.

Callum Slattery fired the Owls ahead on his league debut before former Doncaster Rovers defender Joseph Olowu levelled proceedings.

Jamal Lowe popped up with the winner in the second half, striking for the second consecutive game as he converted from the penalty spot.

Henrik Pedersen reflects on Sheffield Wednesday win

Pedersen said: “To learn to win after last season, it’s a job in itself and to find a way in different games is a big strength. We need to have more identity, but the boys will grow with the identity.

“We are all sitting with a very big hunger that we want to show more. The boys will grow, and they will grow a lot through the season.

“It’s important to build up the confidence to win, but as I told the boys – we have to deserve to win games. We weren’t good enough in the first half but we were in the second, and this is what we want to have much more of.”

The Leyton Orient view

Orient head coach Richie Wellens believes errors provded costly for the hosts.

He said: “We have a crazy 20 minutes, mistakes where they could have scored four or five. We’re heading it back, passing it back to the goalkeeper, give a stupid penalty away. I’ll take the blame, I should have changed it two or three minutes earlier than their second goal.

“We had loads of good things, it’s important that we don’t get too negative because we’re playing against a Championship team.

“I’ll give Sheffield Wednesday credit, they managed the game well in the last 15 minutes. But I liked a lot of it, we need to stay more structured when we concede goals. It’s a new group and we’ve got to learn.”
