Arch Manning’s incredible strength strikes fear in Texas teammate as he refuses arm-wrestle challenge
In the midst of recovering from an arm surgery that took place earlier this year, Texas Longhorns safety Michael Taaffe made it clear in a Zoom interview on Thursday that he’s back in top form and ready for the season. However, during the conversation, Taaffe brought a bit of humor to the serious discussion by playfully declining a suggestion to arm-wrestle his teammate, quarterback Arch Manning.
When Kirk Bohls of the Houston Chronicle jokingly asked if Taaffe’s injury might have been the result of an arm-wrestling match with the towering Manning, Taaffe couldn’t help but laugh at the idea. “Arm-wrestling Arch? No way!” Taaffe chuckled. “He’s huge, especially with those legs of his, and he’s got a lot of strength.”
While Manning, standing at 6-foot-4 and weighing 225 pounds, may be an intimidating opponent in any physical contest, Taaffe‘s focus has been on his recovery and preparing for the season. The surgery, performed in May, was a success, and Taaffe is now fully engaged in practice, performing all the tasks required of his position.
Taaffe looks to be a big player for the Texas defense
“My arm is in great shape now,” Taaffe shared. “The surgery went well, and the doctors are pleased with how things have progressed. I’m back to full contact, tackling, catching, and getting off blocks-everything I need to do as a defensive back.”
Last season, Taaffe was a pivotal player for the Longhorns, snagging three interceptions in consecutive games during Big 12 play. His consistent performance has made him a key component of Texas’ defense.
