The Big 12’s new 16-team lineup didn’t lack for intrigue in 2024 and the chaos should resume in the ’25 college football season. With little separation in recruiting or overall program hierarchy among the 16 teams, expect this conference to have its share of week-to-week volatility. In the way-too-early predictions for ’25, Arizona State, Kansas State, BYU, and Iowa State top the list of contenders. However, the Big 12 has a strong second tier that includes Texas Tech, Baylor, TCU, Colorado, Utah, and Kansas.

Considering how chaotic (and with little separation among teams) the ’24 chase for a spot in the Big 12 Championship was, it wouldn’t be a surprise to see a sleeper (or two) emerge in the ’25 title picture. Houston should be much improved in coach Willie Fritz’s second year, and Rich Rodriguez’s return at West Virginia is a top storyline to watch. Oklahoma State aims to rebound after a dismal 3-9 season, with UCF, Arizona, and Cincinnati all capable of fighting for bowl eligibility.

It’s never too early to think about predictions or rankings for the 2025 college football season. With that in mind, Athlon provides its very early power rankings for the Big 12 for 2025:
