At the end of last month, it was reported that HBO’s upcoming “Hard Knocks” series would feature UNC. It was going to be the first time that “Hard Knocks” was going to collaborate with a college football program, further underlining Belichick’s impact. However, after weeks of talks over an agreement, the deal was called off. “NFL Films had discussions with Coach Belichick and UNC about appearing on ‘Hard Knocks’ this offseason but couldn’t reach an agreement,” an NFL Media spokesperson told CBS Sports on March 4. According to CBS Sports, issues over creative control led to the deal falling apart.

At first, it was believed that this might be centered around Belichick. Given his history of keeping things under control, it would not have been surprising that Belichick would want control over the program’s content. But there is a twist in the story.
