The Alabama athletics director gave his thoughts Monday night on why Alabama football should be included in the College Football Playoff field. Byrne posted his take on social media.

“Here’s a good look at the numbers/rankings for @AlabamaFTBL. Recognize there’s lots of chatter out there about 2 vs. 3 loss teams, however that is just one factor,“ Byrne wrote on X. ”When you look at the @CFBPlayoff Principles for its Selection Committee, the first bullet point on the list of considerations is strength of schedule. Not all schedules and conferences are created equal. We’ve worked diligently to add more challenging non-conference home-and-homes, which is good for college football, not to mention the week-in and week-out of the SEC and it being the toughest in the country.”

Alabama has a resume that includes wins over three ranked teams: Georgia, South Carolina and Missouri. Meanwhile, the Crimson Tide has lost to ranked Tennessee, unranked Vanderbilt and unranked Oklahoma.

Alabama (9-3) was ranked No. 13 in the CFP rankings last Tuesday. It moved up to No. 11 in the AP top 25 and coaches polls Sunday. It remains to be seen where the Crimson Tide will rank in the latest CFP rankings this Tuesday. The final CFP rankings will be dropped Sunday.

Alabama captain Tyler Booker also gave his pitch Monday for why

“I feel like the playoff is designed to have the 12 best teams in the country,” Booker said on The Next Round. “If you turn on the film and think that Alabama is not one of the best teams in the country, I don’t know what you would define as one of the 12 best teams in the country because the schedule that we played and the talent that we have on our team, I definitely think we’re one of the 12 best teams in the country. Our record might not be the prettiest, but when Alabama comes to play, we are definitely one of the 12 best teams in the country.”

The Crimson Tide won’t be able to add to its resume anymore; it didn’t make the SEC Championship Game. So it will have to await its fate without playing this weekend.
