Butler adds a veteran edge rusher to LSU’s defensive end room after the Tigers lost sophomore Da’Shawn Womack to the transfer portal and senior starters Bradyn Swinson and Sai’vion Jones ran out of eligibility.
Freshman Gabriel Reliford is LSU’s only edge rusher set to return who earned regular playing time a year ago. So even with Butler in the fold, the Tigers may look to add more to this position from the transfer portal this offseason
Butler was a starter for the Cornhuskers for the past two seasons, accumulating 22 tackles, seven tackles for loss and two sacks this year. He also had 34 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2023 and has 48 quarterback pressures in his career, according to Pro Football Focus.
Butler, who’s 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, announced his decision Saturday night on social media. Florida State and Texas A&M were the other finalists in his recruitment in the transfer portal. He has one more year of eligibility.
LSU has added four transfers in the past two days, and all of them are from power conference schools. Butler joined Oklahoma tight end Bauer Sharp, Florida cornerback Ja’Keem Jackson and Kentucky wide receiver Barion Brown.
Butler attended Murphy High and is from Mobile, Alabama. He was a three-star recruit in the 2020 class and the No. 37 weakside defensive end in the nation, according to the 247Sports composite.
