Done deal:Texas longhorn final commitment as mega joined….

Jake Majors is very high on the talent in the Texas running back room, and he thinks sophomore tailback Jaydon Blue has a similar opinion as well.

Because you can just ask him, Majors implied.

“I’ve just seen a lot of growth and a lot of maturity in C.J. Baxter, and he’s as natural as it gets,” the Longhorns senior center said of one of the two co-starters Thursday night. “And same thing with JB. He’s been a great leader. He’s vocal.

And he’ll let you know when he beats you.”

Baxter, Blue’s tandem running back in the backfield, echoed those sentiments from Majors.

Asked to provide an example of Blue’s bravado, Baxter recalled their trip to some local pickleball courts recently.

“He just let everybody know, like, ‘I’m the best here.’ But that’s just him,” Baxter said. “He brings energy to practice. And today I told him whenever you have juice, the whole team has juice, so just keep bringing it.”

As for Blue’s bragging, was he actually the best on the pickleball courts?

“I mean,” Baxter said, “he won, so …”

The two backs split time after Jonathon Brooks tore knee ligaments against TCU in the 10th game of the season and was lost for the rest of the year. They split carries in the loss to Washington in the Sugar Bowl CFP semifinal game and ran well, but each had a costly fumble to kill a drive.

The 6-1, 220-pound Baxter, who actually started the season opener over Brooks, finished the year with 659 yards and five touchdowns, while the speedy 6-foot, 200-pound Blue out of Klein Cain ran for 407 yards and averaged 6.1 yards a carry to duplicate Brooks’ average gain.

Both have terrific hands and strong bursts, although Blue is the faster of the two.

Asked if he expects a 50-50 split in carries, Baxter said, “Whatever it is and whoever has the hot hand, we both are willing to accept that role.”
