After a busy fall that included an official visit to Ohio State, A’mare Bynum has made a college decision.
Bynum will play for the Buckeyes. Today, the four-star power forward from Branson (Missouri) Link Academy announced his commitment to the program in the 2025 class, giving coach Jake Diebler a versatile player whose stock grew during the offseason.
“Looking at everything, I came down with a decision with my family after looking at the pros and cons of every school,” Bynum said. “I just felt like best was Ohio State, because of Diebler. It’s been great. Ever since the summer he’s been talking to me pretty much every day, Facetiming me, doing whatever he can to get me, and it worked.”
A native of Omaha, Nebraska, Bynum played at Bryan High School before transferring to Link Academy for his senior season. Although he’s a power forward at 6-8, 225 pounds, Bynum is listed as a center in the 247Sports.com database. He’s a four-star prospect, the No. 5 player from Nebraska and the No. 99 overall prospect in the 2025 class according to 247Sports.
It’s been a busy fall for Bynum. He took an official visit to Nebraska on Sept. 6 and followed that with trips to Iowa (Sept. 13), Colorado (Sept. 20), Ohio State (Oct. 4) and Xavier (Oct. 11). He had planned to visit LSU on Sept. 27 but canceled that visit.
“It was a lot,” he said. “I went to Xavier and then I sat down with my family and looked at everything and that’s when I picked Ohio State. It was probably last week. It felt real good. I don’t have to take any more visits. No more pressure. Now I can just focus on the season.”
Bynum played his way onto Ohio State’s radar with a strong showing at the NBPA’s Top 100 camp in Orlando from June 8-12. The Buckeyes offered him shortly after that, and Diebler has been in constant contact ever since, Bynum said.
“Being a very versatile forward, that’s what he really likes about me,” Bynum said. “I’ve always been like that. I always have been able to do it all, basically. It’s made me different from everybody else, being able to shoot. That’s probably helped me the most.”
That recruitment led to his official visit to Ohio State earlier this month, which marked his first time on campus.
“It was really nice,” he said. “I really liked it. I saw everything. The campus is real nice.”
Asked what he’s most excited about at Ohio State, Bynum said, “The fans. The arena’s real big, and they told me it’s like a packed crowd every time. That should be fun.”
Bynum’s father, Omar, played in 62 games for Iowa State from 2000-03, averaging 4.7 points and 3.9 rebounds in 16.1 minutes per appearance.
He is the second player to commit to Ohio State in the 2025 class, joining four-star guard Dorian Jones from Richmond Heights, Ohio. A 6-4, 160-pound guard, Jones is the top player from Ohio, the No. 14 shooting guard and No. 68 overall player in his class according to 247Sports.
Bynum played at Top 100 camp alongside Jones and Jerry Easter II, an Ohio State recruiting target from Northwest Ohio\ who is also at Link Academy this year. Bynum and Easter took their official visits to Ohio State during the same weekend but have not discussed playing together in college, Bynum said.
“It’s been real good (playing with him),” Bynum said. “Great point guard. He does everything.”
The Buckeyes are expected to sign as many as four players in this class.
