What a difference a year makes when it comes to Alabama QB Jalen Milroe. Entering the 2023 season there was so much uncertainty about who the QB would be. Many fans thought there was a better option than Jalen to be under center. On top of that Alabama had an offensive coordinator in Tommy Reese, who was clearly over his head and Jalen wasn’t his guy. Even after the USF debacle and it was clear Jalen was going to be the best option for Alabama last season it didn’t seem until November that he was put in the right situations to excel. Fast forward a year later and there is a completely different feeling around Jalen Milroe as the Alabama QB. He is clearly the starter, and is a Heisman-contending one as well.

His confidence appears to be through the roof, and as we know to be a great QB in the SEC first you have to believe in yourself. Kalen Deboer and his offensive staff know how to put their QB in the position to be great as was seen at Washington with Michael Penix and now it will be seen in Tuscaloosa with Milroe. They will have Jalen run when needed. He will be much improved in his middle passing game. The frustrations present last year with this offense will be far less of an occurrence in 2024. The play calling will be tailored to Jalen’s strengths, and what we saw from Jalen in November last season will be what we get this entire season.

Defenses having to respect Jalen’s arm as much as his legs will allow his running game to be even more dangerous than it was last year. With Jalen being more confident running the offense we are going to see much improvement with his decision-making and getting the ball out quicker. The last couple of years even when Bryce Young was putting up numbers, there was something missing from the Alabama offense. Honestly, this is the first time since Sark was the OC that the offense will feel complete. It starts with this new coaching staff putting their star QB in the best position to win. Jalen Milroe will put up Heisman like numbers in 2024 and will be a key reason why the Alabama offense will once again keep defensive coordinators up at night.

Success for Alabama Football in the 2024 season will come down to how well the Crimson Tide does in close games. Based on current betting odds, four of Alabama’s regular season games will have a spread of 4.5 points or less. The Crimson Tide is the favorite in three of the games but at 2.5 points or less.

In Nick Saban’s 17-season run in Tuscaloosa, the GOAT was 30-20 in one-score games. Take away six Alabama, one-score losses in the 2007 season, and Saban was 30-14; 68.2%. Kalen DeBoer was 8-0 in one-score games last season with the Washington Huskies. In DeBoer’s nine seasons as a head coach, his overall one-score games record is 26-6; 81.3%.
