Superlatives: A look at Florida State’s 2025 commit list…

Summer is quickly coming to an end and it’s nearly time for the fall football season. Somehow it’s just about time for the return of college football.

With recruiting starting to slow down just a touch for a few months during the fall months, as high school and college football season begin, it’s a good time to look at the current commit lists. Everyone loves superlatives, so let’s break down the class a little.

during the selection committee’s final deliberations. A loss in Ann Arbor wouldn’t cripple the Longhorns’ shot at a playoff berth, but it’s a game Texas should win when comparing both rosters — despite the Wolverines coming off a national championship and riding the nation’s longest winning streak.

This would be quite the poker chip for Texas if the Longhorns fail to win the SEC, yet finish the season with double-digit victories as an at-large qualifier. There are several spotlight non-conference games in September, but this will certainly be college football’s most-advertised in Week 2 when it’s SEC versus Big Ten with major poll movement to follow. Texas gets three home games as heavy favorites thereafter before an open week prior to heading to the State Fair of Texas for the Red River Rivalry.

The stakes: Bragging rights galore

Everyone’s ready to renew this rivalry, but given its placement at the end of the regular season, this could mean one of two things for the Longhorns: Texas knows what it has to do to reach the SEC title matchup the following weekend, or this team has already locked in a berth along with a playoff nod. We’re not taking anything away from this one being played for the first time since 2011, but it will lose just a hint of its luster if the league’s final standings and postseason placement has already materialized.

That said, this will be one of the most difficult tickets to get across the sport during rivalry weekend. The matchup marks the 119th all-time game between the Lone Star State powers, which is “sad and ludicrous” when you truly break it down. SEC schedule-makers made sure that was a priority during the offseason and its ratings should rival Iron Bowl numbers. What would push this matchup to No. 1 on our season-defining list is if both teams come in nationally-ranked ranked with the winner going to Atlanta. Oh, the intrigue.
